The event facilitated collaboration between Black faith-based and community organizations, private and philanthropic sectors, to emphasize how we work together for climate and disaster resiliency in Black towns and communities.

CIVIQ is a quarterly event which introduces and humanizes national and international movements in urban design by showcasing visionary work being done by practitioners in other cities. With each free and public event, we aim to position Chattanoogans to leave feeling inspired, informed, and activated. More than a lecture, each event is intended to equip the city to think differently about challenges faced in our community.

In recognizing the imperative for social justice within placemaking, Bruzenskey took proactive steps to address this gap by founding the Congressional Black Caucus for New Urbanism. At the core of this initiative lies a mission to champion equity and enhance spaces through the principles of new urbanism.

Advocating for walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods and accessible public spaces, the goal is to cultivate a sense of community and elevate the quality of life in urban areas. The overarching objective is clear—to empower black communities to define their destinies and ensure universal access to safe, affordable, and livable environments.
