"Above It All"

From the collection: VHS Dreams & Paint Brush Scenes

This piece is a visual mantra—an invitation to rise above the noise. The grief. The stress. The weight of the world that often feels too heavy to carry. As I created this work, I found myself reflecting on the power of elevation—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.

Inspired by a film that hits differently now than it did in childhood, this piece carries a layered message. As a kid, I watched it for the surface story. But as an adult, I see the grief, the healing, the struggle to keep going after losing someone close. It mirrors my own journey—one of learning how to keep living with loss sitting quietly beside me.

There’s a subtle strength in this painting’s composition: the figures rising, one in front of the other, suggest motion and forward momentum. The city skyline glows behind them, with lines that mimic building lights—tiny beacons against the night. The color palette is one of my personal favorites, balancing intensity with calm.

This isn’t just a tribute to a film—it’s a reflection of survival, memory, and the quiet courage it takes to keep moving forward.
